If you are a food lover visiting Delhi, the national capital of India, you will be amazed to know that this time you can try some really great food. Delhi has a mixed culture, where you can find people from various castes and religion. So, it has everything to offer to start from Hyderabadi biryani, Chole Bhature to Masala Dosa. Here, I have added some of the best places to eat in Delhi.
1. Old Delhi
Old Delhi is famous for its authentic Mughlai cuisine, sweets and street food. All types of spicy chats are available starting from Papri Chaat to Dahi Bhalla. Yes, these spicy foods are also available in other areas of Delhi but you will not get the same taste and flavor that you get here.
Some popular places in Old Delhi where you can have tasty chats include Balaji Chaat Bhandar and Khemchand Adesh Kumar’s Daulat Ki Chaat. If you are in Old Delhi, I recommend you to taste the King size jalebi but do carry someone along with you as you cannot eat 1 Jalebi alone.
Old Delhi is famous for its Pranthe Wali Gali, located in the super busy Chandni Chowk market. Once you enter the area, you can spot several small shops preparing delicious paranthas.
Some of these shops are operating there since the British era, and these prepare some of the best and unique paranthas such as methi parantha, mirchi parantha, gobi parantha, papad parantha to name a few.
2. Khan Market
Taste mutton kebab, fried rice, and chicken biriyani if you happen to visit this place. Apart from street food, there are several fine dining options in Khan Market. Some of the best eateries, bars, and cafes are located in the area.
I am naming a few eating places in Khan Market which I happened to visit – Yellow Brick, The Big Chill, and Azam’s Muglai.
However, you can check around and I am sure you may find many other good options, which I have not listed here.
3. Jama Masjid
I will recommend all non-vegetarians to visit the area, which is paradise for meat lovers. Jama Masjid and the lane opposite, Bazaar Matia Mahal, offers some of the best street food in Delhi.
Starting from grilled boti, keema samosa to kebab, Jama Masjid area has everything to offer for non-veg lovers.
Located in the South Delhi area, Nizamuddin is an ideal place for those who want to taste some Mughlai delicacies. Several eateries operate in the area which sees people from across the country.
Visit the Ghalib Kabab Corner and the Karim’s, where you can have some classic kebabs, keema masala, and Afghani Roti. Nizamuddin is a crowded place being located near the railway station, so you have to be careful with your valuables.
5. South Campus
Mostly popular among college students, the area has a variety of food options in limited budget. You can find some awesome food plazas such as Scooter on the Wall, Big Yellow Door, and QD.
Popular food items in the area are fast food, American, Chinese and Italian. Besides, the place is cool enough, which will remind you of your college life and hang out.
6. North Campus
North Campus is one of the best places to eat in Delhi. Located near the Delhi University, North Campus offers some of the pocket-friendly places to try some really great food. The place has several food points such as Bille Di Hatti, Chache Di Hatti, Momo’s Point, Shagun Asian Eatery, and Bamboo Hut.
Even some south Indian joints also flourish in the area, where you can have tasty Dosa and Medu Vada. Being a University area, you will find yourself surrounded by all types of food options.
7. Chittaranjan Park
Also known as mini Bengal, Chittaranjan Park or CR Park will make you feel as if you are in Kolkata. The area has 4 markets but I recommend you to visit the market no.1 or 2, which has more eating options.
Starting from pani puri (puchka), fish cutlet, Kathi roll to Ghugni, you will not miss anything here. Must visit shops are Dadu Cutlet Shop, Annapurna Sweet House, and Raju Puchka Wala. Don’t forget to try some Misti Doi or the sweet Curd.
8. Connaught Place
Perhaps the biggest hub of restaurants, Connaught Place is also known as the heart of Delhi and is one of the most happening places. You can find all types of eating options here and for every budget.
Whether you want to have a cheap beer at My Bar Headquarters or a fine dining experience at the Parikrama, you can visit this area. Some of the best restaurants in CP includes include the Warehouse Cafe and Zinc.
9. New Friends Colony
New Friends Colony community center has some popular eateries that offer delicious North and South Indian cuisine.
Although you will not find too many cafes or bars in the area, you can have some fast food and South Indian cuisines. Try the Shawarmas and Chicken Briyani of Albake. As already mentioned, there is a limitation of bars in the area. The only option is Pebble Street and Dawat Khana.
10. Dilli Haat
Based near the popular INA market, Dilli Haat is located very near to the metro station and is counted as one of the best places to eat in Delhi. Once you enter the area, you will be delighted to find several types of eating option. Delhi Haat is a place, where dedicated food stalls of every state of India exists.
So as a food lover, you can taste the cuisines of various states under a single roof. Apart from authentic food available, Dilli Hatt is also preferred by tourists for traditional clothes, jewelry, and handicraft shopping.
Apart from these places, there are various other areas across the National capital where you can enjoy mouthwatering dishes. If you have a week time, just try and visit these places and I am sure you will never repent on your decision.
